VMware sends client administration of Apple iPad - Computerworld

IDG News Service - VMware has released the iPad client services, with which personal it can monitor and manage your virtualized infrastructure, the company said Thursday.

The Tablet PC application does not come with all the functions of management currently available in the desktop client. It has been designed from the beginning for Apple's iPad and is "optimized to view and manage their environment of services on the fly", according to VMware.


Originally, the application would come at the end of last year.


Client services for iPad is free and can be used to search for and monitor the performance of services hosts and virtual machines.


Administrators may also start, stop, and suspend virtual machines or see and restore snapshot copies of them. Hosts can reboot or put in maintenance mode, VMware is written on a Web site dedicated to the product. The website also includes videos to help guide users through the installation process. The client only comes with the support of the community, according to VMware.


For Client Services for iPad to work, the companies first have to install a virtual device called vCenter Mobile Access on one of their servers and connect servers to manage it. The traffic between the iPad and the device is encrypted to enhance security.


The client already seems to be a hit with users of VMware. About 11 a.m. hour Central European, services client for iPad was the fourth most popular in the category of business applications in the App Store. The most popular application was customer recipient of Citrix followed by client VMware view for iPad, which was released last week. Both applications are used to access virtual desktops for Windows.
